How to Binge-Watch and Still be Healthy

Almost everyone loves to binge-watch their favorite shows on television. After all, it is a great stress reliever. It can easily distract you from your daily worries and can provide you quality entertainment at the same time. Therefore, it is no surprise to find people glued to their television screens almost all the time. While binge-watching is fun, many people argue that this habit is not healthy and can cause problems like for instance, a disconnect from the real world. True, it can! But there are ways that can help you binge-watch television as much as you like while still staying healthy. Interested in finding out what those ways are? Well, let’s take a look at them!

1. Set A Limit

Streaming entertainment can be a bit hypnotic at times. How? Well, imagine that you are watching an episode of a series that you like and when it ends, the episode seamlessly blends into the next, giving you no choice but to watch it. Binge-watching often casts a spell on your brain and it can become really difficult to break free from it. One way you can unglue yourself from the TV screen is to decide how many episodes you are going to watch and at what time you’ll turn off the device. Doing this will help you put a limit on much content you can consume. If you want to make this way work then select a timer to turn off the TV or you can just ask your friend to send you a text when it’s time to step away.

2. Watch with A Friend

Social connections are really important in keeping your mind sane and healthy. But isolating yourself completely just to binge-watch is not! Doing this will only prevent you from spending time with your family and friends. However, one thing that you can do is to call a friend and binge-watch together. This way, you will be more connected. Also, the other person will be able to stop you from binge-watching for longer hours.

3. Take Frequent Breaks

When you are staring at a screen consistently, your brain will start to work on autopilot. So, it is advised that you press the pause button and take small breaks quite frequently. You can walk around, or get that glass of water you wanted. And once you have given yourself a short break, think of the show that you are watching really interests you or not. After the break, you might decide that you indeed want to watch another episode. This way, you would make a conscious decision about your plan.

4. Watch Mindfully

If you are watching a television show then it is advised that you give it your full attention. If you are scrolling through social media or dozing off then it means that you are not really interested in the show. So, why would you waste your time on something that doesn’t attract you? Therefore, it will be better if you switch off the television and do something productive that can satisfy you more.

5. Combine Good Habits

You don’t necessarily have to sit on the couch binge-watching. What you can do is combine different habits together. For instance, you can exercise and watch television at the same time. If you are someone who finds it difficult to do that then you can try doing other activities such as munching on veggies and fruits instead of chips and other fattening items. Whatever it is that you choose, you should consider making a plan and then stick to it no matter what.

6. Be Mindful of Your Sleep Schedule

It sure is tempting to stay up all night to finish your favorite series. After all, when you get back home after a tiring day at work, you look at the TV as the only way that can make you feel a bit energized. And when you switch it on, you will easily lose the track of time. This will take a toll on your sleep schedule. Therefore, it is advised to be mindful of it and switch off the television well before it is time for you to sleep.

Conclusion

Binge-watching television can be fun especially when you have an uninterrupted internet connection that doesn’t let the content buffer while streaming. Ask me! I, after checking the Spectrum internet prices, opted for their service and now I can enjoy all of my favorite series seamlessly. However, too much screen-time can get anyone into trouble. Therefore, consider the tips mentioned above to binge-watch while staying healthy at the same time.
