Consensus mechanisms are the backbone of decentralized networks like blockchains. These processes decide how transactions are verified and put on the block. They also ensure the integrity and security of the network. They must balance a number of factors including security, scalability, energy efficiency and decentralization. PoW is known for its security and scalability. On the other hand, pos is more energy efficient as it does not require miners to compete with each other for the right to verify and create new blocks. In addition, PoS is less prone to attacks from 51% groups. To launch a successful attack, attackers would need to control 51% of the network’s mining power, which is financially infeasible.
